Antoine Frederic Ozanam was born in Milan on 23rd April 1813, the fifth son of Jean-Antoine Ozanam and of Marie Nantas. He was a pupil at the Royal College of Lyons between 1822 to 1829. He was a student at Law in Paris in November of 1831. He founded the first Conference of St. Vincent de Paul in May of 1833. He obtained his Doctor of Law in 1836 and was a Barrister at Lyons in 1837. In 1839, he obtained his Doctor of Letters and was appointed as Professor of Commercial Law at Lyons and in 1840, he was a Fellow at the Faculty of Arts.

He was married to Amelie Soulacroix on 23rd June 1841 at Lyons. He became a Professor of Comparative Literature at the Sorborne in November of 1844 and was appointed Editor of the paper “The New Age” in March of 1848.

He retired from teaching on account of ill-health in April of 1852. Frederic passed away in Marseilles on 8th September 1853.
